Affinity Publisher has all the same features that Adobe InDesign, or QuarkXpress, both professional level magazine newspaper and book layout programs. The advantage to using Affinity publisher is that it will generate a high-resolution PDF that you can send to any printing company you choose, including Blurb.com. Affinity Publisher has an automatically updating Table of Contents and Index function. Most importantly Affinity Publisher has a robust Styles function which allows you to consistently and quickly format huge swaths of text in your book with a single click. The Master Page is function is also highly useful because different sections of your book can have different background layouts without having to design each page individually.

Affinity publisher retails at $69 CAD paid once and is often on sale and sometimes has an extended trial period. Compare that to Adobe's monthly subscription of about $80 CAD for access to InDesign and their Creative Cloud suite.
